She was one of the slaves in Rome, one that Sabina befriended while she was a slave there. Sabina saved her from being raped by her master--an act which nearly cost Sabina her life, if it had not been for Xena. Siran was very fond of Sabina and, despite who Sabina was, a ruthless killer, they became friends. Siran travels with Sabina and Siran is really the only thing that keeps Sabina from becoming the cold and ruthless person that she was before they met. Of course, Sabina is no good person by any means, but she will do good, if only for Siran's sake.
