In Heaven, three arcangels--Michael, Raphael and Uriel--are having an argument. They are arguing over the Twilight, the ways in which it came about and how the Olympian order will soon fall. Michael is sure of himself and believes in what should be done but Raphael is unsure about it all, unsure about what was done and what must be done now.
Michael discuss the need to use Eve in their plans, that she is needed for the final step to ensure Olympian downfall. The only problem has been that Eve has been negelecting her duties as the messanger for some time and that must change.
On the way to the island of Andros--a place that Xena, Gabrielle and Eve plan to spend some quality time--Xena and Gabrielle discuss some of the Twilight while seeing a cliff in the distance that legend claims is where the Titans are trapped for all eternity.
On their way there, Michael pays them a visit--one in which Xena is very unhappy about--and tells Eve that as Eli's messanger she must go there and preach the message of Eli to the people. She's unsure about this, especially since she had planned on spending quality time with Xena and Gabrielle, but she also understands her duty and knows that Michael is right even though she has uncertain feelings about him.
Upon arriving in Andros, Xena and Gabrielle go off to have some time together while Eve goes off and to preach Eli's message to a group of people. Ares appears to Xena and Gabrielle while they are in a market place and Eve preaches to the people. They seem to accept her message with kindness until Michael and the other archangels appear (invisiable to the others) and do some kind of spell on a girl in the crowd, causing her to rise up and question what Eve is teaching. Eve is caught off-guard and stunned by the girls hostility toward her message, comparing it to the fall of the Titans.
Ares speaks with Xena along, talking about how he feels something brewing though he can't figure out exactly what. He feels strange, like when Xena was given the power to kill gods. Xena is skeptical about his feelings and must join Gabrielle again.
The crowd begins to get more restless and Eve gets more and more distressed until she finally leaves the crowd and goes off into the forest. There Michael appears to her and tries to comfort her but she is still hostile toward him, and does not understand why God has given her this responsibility, why the gods had to die, why she had to be a part of it all.
During this, Xena and Gabrielle appear almost out of nowhere and they are upset with Michael for tormenting Eve. But Michael has something to show them, too, and opens up a window to give them a vision of just what has happened to the gods since they were killed: they've been sent to hell. This troubles Xena, Gabrielle and Eve. They see the gods over an abyss and a sign that, to Gabrielle's eye reads "Abandon hope and you shall enter here." This shakes Gabrielle up pretty bad and she goes off running into the forest, neither Xena nor Eve understanding what is wrong.
Michael discribes more about the gods going to hell, and sees rather happy about it, but Xena is just angry. Eve looks at the sign, too, and sees it read "You shall honor your mother and father." and gets extremely distressed when she finds that Michael says the God of love is her father in everything but flesh and that she's disobeying him by not doing as Michael commands. This makes Eve run off into the forest, too.
Xena is left to face Michael and is very unhappy about it. She tells him to get out and he soon does, then she takes out her rage on Ares when he appears--the one who just happened to be there for her to be angry with. After they fight some, Ares realizes that it's really Michael who is causing her all this pain and they finally realize they have an enemy in common.
Eve and Gabrielle discuss what Gabrielle saw on the sign until the little girl from the crowd comes toward them and starts attacking them with stones (with the help of other kids).
Xena's talk with Ares reveals that Michael plans on giving Eve the power to kill gods next and then they hear commotion and find Gabrielle and Eve desperatly trying to defend themselves against the crazed kids.
They all head back to the village where Eve plans on appologizing to everyone for forcing the ways of Eli onto their beliefs. Michael finds this very ammusing when the kids start to attack again and he ends up freezing time, so that he, Xena, Eve and Gabrielle can have a little chat. Michael tries to get Eve to follow the path she was meant to but she won't do it. Ares appears and begins to insight a bit of civil dispute when he sees that Raphael's heart isn't in it. He turns Raphael against Michael and Uriel, eventually leaving them to vanish and the spell on the children to be lifted.
Xena, Gabrielle and Eve deal with the aftermath but know that more is probably to come and Xena is very proud of her daughter, and Gabrielle is too.
